School Backpack Awareness Day

School is definitely back in session and learning is underway. As the days go by and the work load piles up so does the weight of the backpack and purses we carry. A special day has been set aside nationally so that we can all take a moment to clean out our bags and lighten our loads.

Do not overlook the back and shoulder pain that you may feel from time to time when carrying your bags. You may actually be causing slight damage to your body and not even realize it. Be sure to check out the information the American Occupational Therapy Association has to offer.

Style Your Stash

There is a terrible misconception that in order to own a powerful wardrobe you have to spend a lot of money. While I do agree that the attention grabbing displays and the celebrity style cams tend to zoom in on the more pricey looks, you can almost always find a less expensive alternative.

The grass could definitely be greener on the other side in terms of cost, but you would be surprised at the high dollar fashion statements you can create using the clothing and accessories you already have. Every other month or at least every season take the time to shop your own closet to see what items are out of sight and mind. Try “re-pairing” two items that you wouldn’t typically put together and witness the birth of a completely different clothing creation.

Before you go out and spend the big bucks try to style your own stash.

Baggage: Who Are We Inspired By?

From her fierce fro to her lethal legs, artist Solange Knowles exemplifies all things feminine, free, and fabulous. Her cool disposition, edgy style, and couth appearance make her ever so awe-inspiring. We anticipate more great things to come from the Saint Records label owner.

Solange looks absolutely stunning in this ultra sheer gown with a train that showcases her amazing physique outline by the underlying nude bodysuit.

Hump Day: Over the Heel

What’s the Point?

Plan to sharpen your look with the pointy-toe shoe trend.

Summer 2013 will be one that is haute and on point with this

ultra-lady-like silhouette. Pair it with jeans or style them

with a mid-thigh vibrant body con dress for a more sleek

appearance. The versatility of this trend is sure to revive all

the pieces in your wardrobe.

Be on point. Be well-dressed. Be ready.

Be Beautiful-Haute Health: Yes I Can

Life does not always slice you peaches with a side of cream. So what do you do to stay motivated and forward moving? Steal a few moments away from the hustle and bustle of your busy day to apply quick confidence boosters to your to-do-list. Reflect on the very simple things that give you an instant feel good high and learn to act on them when you're running low on energy and esteem.

I love early morning conversations with like-minded people regarding execution of the day's plans. For you it may be doing something difficult that provides a challenge or wearing red lipstick on a day you're feeling shy and introverted. Select the booster of your choice that affirms the Yes I Can in you!

Be motivated. Be extroverted. Be boosted.

Hump Day: Over the Heel

Wedge Edge

One of the nicest shoe choices that you can treat your feet to

besides flats are wedges. Wedges provide the comfort of a

heel-less shoe, but with stacks of style. Peep-toes, espadrilles,

and even sneakers have landed in wedge world.

Be cute. Be comfortable. Be stacked.

Re-Cap

Be it flat or high-rise the masses seem to be grabbing ahold

of the cap toe shoe trend. Try a metallic toe with sequin

embellishments for a flirty date night look or a metal cap toe

on a leather stiletto pump for a more glamorous twist.

Be pumped. Be glamorous. Be captivating.

Sock It to Me

Pure bliss is what the warmth of a cute pair of cozy socks

can bring. Count on a chic pair of sandals to bring even the

simplest of outfits to life. Cozy plus chic equals a 2013

fashion trend that is exponentially daring. Nylon-blend knee

highs, elastic lace low on the ankle are being spotted on

celebrity Vanessa Hudgens and the like. Pull this off and

become quirky cool or dare to be noted as the fashion flip

that flopped. You decide.

Be unique. Be daring. Be radical.

Let's Just Makeup- Let's Be Healthy

Twerk Team

This blog is dedicated to that leg shaking body bending

music genre we New Orleans natives love and that is

Bounce. Although we all may not be able to squeeze a

vigorous workout into our busy schedules and we may not

have the resources to commit to lengthy gym memberships,

there is still hope for getting that much needed exercise to

remain fit and healthy. When the weekend approaches and

you gather with friends to let your hair down and have

some fun use those moments to your advantage and dance!

And I can’t think of a more heart-rate raising sweat pouring

dance style than that of Bounce. So turn on Big Freedia and

the likes and workout!

Be fit. Be moved. Be energized.

Your Next Step Is Clear

Signals are not crossed and communication in the design

towers is clear. It’s apparent that the decision has been made

to trickle down transparency in the lives of those of us who

are making a connection with this open trend. Plastic vinyl

pumps and Lucite constructed heels are just a few of the

dwellings that house the clear phenomenon. No worries

because clear doesn’t just mean white. Bright see through

colors add even more life to this look.

Be connected. Be concise. Be clear.

Pretty Organized: How Long Should I Keep Receipts?

How Long Should I Keep Receipts?

So, you are looking for something in your purse or in your pockets and you keep pulling out more and more paper. You start to feel as though your space is overwhelmed by paper and you automatically start throwing everything away. Then a week later you realized, you trashed a receipt that you really needed. Ugh!?

Trust me, I've been there. So, how long should you keep a receipt? Well, it depends. I don't hold on to receipts for too long unless they fit into three categories:

1. I am still considering returning the item on the receipt.

2. It's a really big purchase and I want to save the receipt for future reference.

3. For tax purposes

I have a weekly ritual where I shred any receipts that do not fit into these three categories. So, take the time to look through receipts you will save yourself the frustration of being overwhelmed by them or the aggravation of throwing an important one away.

Much Love and Much Order,

The New Old School

Spring 2013 is all about all things retro. It's a time of going

out with the new and in with the old. The boy meets world

meets girl Oxford loafers of times previous have been

resurrected and updated for a more posh appeal. Color

block, patent, cut-out, and croc are just a petite list of styles

that dance on top of the soles of this jazzy hit.

Be retro. Be metro. Be jazzy.

Let's Just Makeup: Be Beautiful--Let's BE Healthy

Three a Day

Less is not always more especially as it relates to our daily

food intake. Eating smaller portion sizes may definitely be

more beneficial to your health, while decreasing the number

of meals per day works on the contraire. Skipping meals can

cause your body to begin storing fat from food in unwanted

areas of the body as a reserve for future missed meals. It

is better to intake three well-balanced meals each day at

breakfast, lunch, and dinner supplementing with small

snacks in between.

Be fed. Be full. Be fit.

Lace Up

What’s sleek, chic and lace all over? Spring’s 2013 ultra-

feminine stiletto heeled shoes. This classic trend lends itself

retrospectively to styles like peep-toe booties and such

displaying a hard rock look that just got softer. Don’t be

afraid to dabble in the bold bright hues that stain these lace

appliques.

Be soft. Be feminine. Be classic.

Baggage Boutique--Be Styled

My Point of View

As brighter days are forthcoming, a captivating pair of

shades is imperative. If your size preference is Jacky O so

big or small and round, I spy endless options. Angled brims,

cat eyes, feline prints, or solid and simple one or all of these

style selections should shed light on your kind of specs.

Be bright. Be selective. Be seen.

Let's Just Makeup: Be Beautiful--Let's Be Healthy

The Weight Is Over

Have you ever been told that in order to shed one pound you

must slice 3500 calories? Well, this may not pan out for

everyone. Researchers at the National Institute of Health

explain that this equation does not consider the slowdown

that happens to your metabolism as you lose pounds. This

oversight results in an overestimation of how quickly an

allotted amount of weight can truly be loss. Try visiting

bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov to try their Body Weight

Simulator for a more precise guide to forecasting your weight

loss results.

Be fit. Be accurate. Be healthy.

Let's Just Makeup: Be Beautiful--Let's Be Healthy

World Kidney Day

Today I have the pleasure of celebrating my birthday along-side a rather note-worthy holiday and that is World Kidney Day. Every year on March 14th companies near and far work tiringly to spread the word about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle with well-functioning kidneys. The nursing side of me just wanted to share a little literature with you regarding this most important matter according to the National Kidney Foundation.

The Condition: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

This is a result of damage to the kidneys that decreases one’s ability to remain healthy. As damage progresses waste builds up in your blood to high levels causing you to feel very ill.

The Facts:

Early detection can help prevent the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure.
Heart disease is the major cause of death for all people with CKD.
High risk groups include those with diabetes, hypertension and family history of kidney disease.
African Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and Seniors are at increased risk.
Three simple tests can detect CKD: blood pressure, urine albumin and serum creatinine.

Please make sure you stay abreast of the happenings with your body by keeping all regularly scheduled doctor appointments. Know where you stand.

Be concerned. Be informed. Be filtered.

Hump Day: Over the Heel

Heavy Metal

The light airiness that spring bestows just got a little heavier in

fashion this season. Metal straps and heels along with an array

of colored metallic accents are some of the top aesthetics in

2013. It kisses the tip of the toe and hugs gently around the

ankle. Feel free to rock out!

Be shiny. Be marvelous. Be heavy.
