Let's Just Makeup: Be Beautiful--Let's Be Healthy

World Kidney Day

Today I have the pleasure of celebrating my birthday along-side a rather note-worthy holiday and that is World Kidney Day. Every year on March 14th companies near and far work tiringly to spread the word about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle with well-functioning kidneys. The nursing side of me just wanted to share a little literature with you regarding this most important matter according to the National Kidney Foundation.

The Condition: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

This is a result of damage to the kidneys that decreases one’s ability to remain healthy. As damage progresses waste builds up in your blood to high levels causing you to feel very ill.

The Facts:

Early detection can help prevent the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure.
Heart disease is the major cause of death for all people with CKD.
High risk groups include those with diabetes, hypertension and family history of kidney disease.
African Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and Seniors are at increased risk.
Three simple tests can detect CKD: blood pressure, urine albumin and serum creatinine.

Please make sure you stay abreast of the happenings with your body by keeping all regularly scheduled doctor appointments. Know where you stand.

Be concerned. Be informed. Be filtered.
